Building Industry Employees
...if you are an employee builder, supervisor, leading hand, tradesperson, apprentice, general construction worker, labourer, plant operator or similar occupation within the building and construction industry, some of the deductions you may be able to claim are identified below.
  • Harnesses, goggles, breathing masks and helmets.  
  • Sunglasses, sunhats and sunscreen lotions – if the nature of your work requires you to work in the sun for all or part of the day and you use these items to protect yourself from the sun at work. 
  • Wet weather gear worn only when using chemicals or high pressure hoses - but not drill trousers, shorts, shirts and conventional footwear such as sports shoes and joggers. 
  • Parking fees, bridge and road tolls cost for travel between work sites - but not costs for travel to and from work. 
  • Decline in value of building tools and equipment. 
  • Renewing your licences and certificates that relate to your work – but not the cost of obtaining your initial licences or certificates
