Factory Workers
if you are an employee factory worker, process worker or machine operator, some of the deductions you may be able to claim are identified below. 
  • Safety glasses, goggles, gloves, helmets, hearing protection and breathing masks  
  • Sunglasses, sunhats and sunscreen lotions – if the nature of your work requires you to work in the sun for all or part of the day and you use these items to protect yourself from the sun at work.
  • Wet weather gear or safety boots worn when using chemicals or high pressure hoses - but not trousers, shorts, shirts and conventional footwear such as sports shoes and joggers.
  • Decline in value of boning or filleting knives and other equipment purchased for work - but not if the equipment is supplied by your employer or your employer reimbursed you for the costs. 
  • Thermal underwear if you are required to work in an extreme environment such as a chiller or freezer. 
  • Fork lift licence and premiums that are paid in addition to the cost of a standard licence required for work purposes - but not the cost of acquiring or renewing a driver's licence
